Emanuel Baptist Church on Grand Bahama Island
In 2008 we were introduced to a church, a town and an Island full of wonderful, loving people. God gave us the opportunity to visit Emmanuel Baptist Church in a town called High Rock on the Grand Bahamas Island to do some ministry work. From the very start we were impressed by the love and the giving nature of the people there. Although by our standards here in the states, these people had very little, but what they did have was yours if you needed it and what they also had was a strong love for God and His son Jesus Christ.
That nature and that love for God has not changed in the years since then. This small Island and it’s people have seen many storms through the years, but earlier this month they faced the biggest storm they have ever seen in the history of the Islands. Hurricane Dorian, a category 5 monster with sustained 180 mile an hour winds and a 22 foot storm surge, lingered over the Grand Bahamas’ Island for nearly three days! Not one building was left unscathed and many were completely destroyed and swept out to sea. Presently there are over 1,200 people missing and hundreds dead. Much of the island is still without electricity and clean drinking water. The roads have been compromised, if not just taken away by the force of the wind and waves.
This is a tragedy on a scale that these wonderful people have never seen. They are in shock and in mourning as everyone has lost someone close to them. They need our help! We cannot bring back loved ones who have gone to be with the Lord, but we can help these people regain hope by helping them put their homes back together! Please consider giving what you can at the link below to help Pastor “Jay” Pinder and his staff rebuild Emmanuel Baptist Church and the homes of High Rock! We know these people and we know that they will be grateful for every dollar you can give and each dollar will be put to the very best use in the church and the community. Thank you for your generosity! Praise God for good people who have a heart to help others in their time of need.
